Hi hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of contacting a friend of mine who has kept and rescued Great Danes for longer than she cares to remember to ask her advice on anaesthesia protocol for giant breeds. I knew she had advised many Dane owners of this over the years, here is her reply.....
It's propofol to induce anaesthesia and isoflurane to maintain it.
He should also ask the vet to do a quick blood test to test kidney and liver function and clotting times. It isn't a full blood panel checking for all sorts of health issues but it should ease his mind with regard to the surgery.
Thank for going to that trouble for us divegirl! You are a darling! Keeva is back home with us now, all went well. Well, except for the near heart attack I had when they told me how much the bill was, lol! In the end though all that matters is that our little girl is safe and well and her paw has the best chance of healing. Thanks so much for your support! xxx
So pleased it all went well. I can imagine the bill! One of my Danes managed to cut across the back of heel last year severing all but one of his tendons! £2500 later.......arghh! Thankfully he was insured though and it cost me £60 :0)
