On the subject of Crufts, is it time to dump the Bull Dog?
I always knew they had problems but I didn't realise how bad.

If this article is correct then I say stop the breeding and it should no longer be accepted as a breed recognised by the Kennel Club.

It's only through programmes like this that most ordinary dog owners get to hear of the dreadful suffering of some of our best known breeds and to my mind the more people that are appalled by it the better. People who think there's nothing wrong in putting a father to a daughter need their registrations removing for a start. People get up in arms over battery chickens and veal calves and as far as I can see the suffering of these dogs is no less disgusting, sadly not enough people are making a big enough fuss over it. There are obviously some breeders trying to do their best but with the tiny gene pools of some of the breeds a lot of them are fighting a loosing battle.
Puppy buyers have to play their part too though. If people insist on buying out of the local free ads or online pages without checking health tests etc have been done are only perpetuating the problem. The phrase I hate most is 'I only want a pet' meaning they don't want to pay decent money for a health tested puppy so the back yard breeders and puppy farmers and those breeders who don't health test are rubbing their hands. I do wish the Kennel Club would insist on health testing parents before breeding but till they do jo public should do their own checks before parting with their hard earned money for what could turn out to be a very poor choice.
