My daughter who has a learner permit was quoted a huge sum for insuring a small car which she has yet to purchase and put in her own name.
I discovered from online quotes that if the car was placed in my name and for insurance purposes i put myself as main driver and then added my daughter as an extra driver the premium was reduced a great deal. Have you any more suggestions as to how we could reduce it any further.
I know that i am taking on the risk but is that not what families are for!
That could be regarded as 'fronting' and may invalidate any claim, particularly if you already have a vehicle of your own.
If she gets a quote in her name and adds you as an additional driver that would bring down her premium quite a bit
If you use the same company to get a quote this way you may come unstuck if you need to claim. Someone was on TV from an insurance co a while ago and he said they look out for people who get quotes for young driver, find it too expensive and then get a second quote with experienced driver as the main driver. Be careful how you go about it, all quotes are saved apprently.
As factor says, that's fronting which is illegal and invalidates the insurance. Your experience as an additional driver on her own policy should make a difference.
and no... the risk is that you end up with invalid insurance if you do it the other way, that's not a risk worth taking.
