Hi .My husband and I both have mobility problems and have Blue Badges ,we repeatedly cannot use our car as people some of them neighbour's park in front of our drive. We have repeatedly asked the main offender to refrain from doing it but today she parked completely blocking our drive even though there was plenty of room' when we have asked her to move on previous occasions she has been unpleasant so we tend to just stay in if possible .How do we go about getting lines painted or something done to stop it ???? Thanks twinny

Contact your local council for advice.
Our local coucil will paint a disabled bay on the road for the home-owner or tenant but it doesn't seem enforceable without a sign. Perhaps they could get double yellows painted at the end of your drive??
I think you'll have to contact your council.

In the mean time wouldn't it be easier if you parked in front of your drive?
If they are blocking you on your drive call the police (not 999) as they are breaking the law, maybe a visit from the police might make them stop.

If they are blocking from getting back on your drive then (stupid as it sounds) they are not breaking the law!

For a long term solution (as the above say) contact your local authorities highways department.
In the interim I think Ummmm's idea is likely the best option. What amazes me is that these same type of people would not have the front to physically bar another's way on the pavement for example, yet have the audacity to do so on the road.
I thought it was illegal to block some ones driveway, next time try ringing the Police they may be able to help, if it turns out to be illegal then your
neighbour will soon get the message, especially when she gets a fixed penalty notice
Idiots- how rude !!!!

Hopefully your council will paint a disabled bay or lines for you- and relatively quickly id say xx
"I thought it was illegal to block some ones driveway"

Not as such, it's illegal to block access onto a public highway (so blocking somebody on a driveway is illegal) but it's not illegal to block a driveway if there is no car on the drive.
Dee, like Chuck said, I think it's illegal to block you from getting off your drive, but not from getting on your drive.
Actually, a relevant question for the OP is...

Do you have a dropped curb for your driveway? because if you don't you can't legally drive over the path to gain access or egress to/from your driveway so you shouldn't even be parking your car on your driveway.

If you haven't got a dropped curb then applying for a dropped curb is your first step, if you do have a dropped curb then see the other answers above.
I would put some felt nails on the road in front of your driveway, but don't forget to pick them up when you are going out!
And then maybe the selfish bitch will get the message if she gets punctures
in her tyres.Good luck

Thanks for all replies ,Yes ChuckFickens we do have dropped kerbs..She has been parked across our drive since about 11am today with the top down on her sports car, hoping for lots of seagulls or torrential rain !!
I'd hope for the seagulls personally. Think of the damage their guano can do ...
The law changed around 2008/2009 meaning it is an offence to park in front of a dropped kerb, regardless of whether the homeowner is obstructed from getting on or off his drive, so phone the police.

do not put tacks down as some poor soul driving by will end up with punctured tyres , and it may just be an ambulance!

DO NOT stop or park
near a school entrance
anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing
opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
in front of an entrance to a property
on a bend
where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities except when forced to do so by stationary traffic

The highway code says 'do not' there fore you dont
Dial 101, after all it is not an emergency, and ask for an officer to call
