Dog drinking own urine

My ten year old German Shepherd has taken to turning round and drinking her own urine when she's done a wee. Is this odd behaviour or normal?

Does she wee more than usual, or could she be dehydrated? I would get her checked out at the vets for a urinary tract infection, diabetes etc. If it's not physical it could be a sign of the onset of demetia some elderly dogs do start to display some rather odd behaviour when they're getting on a bit. Could just be she's developed a taste for it and on it's own it won't do her any harm but I'd get it checked out incase there is a medical reason for it.

She's not weeing more or drinking more/less. She's fine.
Maybe she is getting a bit old and doing some strange things. I wondered if any other dogs do it.

Its not normal but not unusual. Won't harm her but it could be the sign of an infection so best to get it checked out. If she is not spayed could be a sign of pyometra too. Try to discourage it by calling her away as soon as she has wee'd.

Don't some humans do this? I have read it can be good for you, although I can't imagine ever wanting to try. I recall it is quite common in some countries

And Sarah Miles. Who was mad as a box of hot owls. Don't fancy it myself. But dogs do like to eat their own poo and drink their own wee from time to time.

They eat placentas too - that is some weird concept some humans have taken on. I have no doubt that it is nourishing but hardly what I would call edible.

I once saw an orangutan eating it's poo while I was talking to the keeper and she said that it was a sign that it was bored.....could this be the case with dogs also?????????

I once took a #2 in the woods and as I was adjusting my attire afterwards my dog was eating what I had deposited in the bushes. Ewwww! They are complete dustbins.
