I have 2 x R.Ridgebacks that have begun to stress severely, trying to put themselves into the smallest possible place etc. I can't hear anything untoward and nothing really scares them. I'm worried that stress could lead onto something nasty. Any suggestions?

might sound odd but do you live near an industrial estate soemtimes machinery can give off sounds we as humans cannot hear but spooks the crap out of animals. That or electronics left on stand by give a low buzz sometimes. Get some feliway designed for cats but works for dogs tox
DAP is the one you want for dogs....and I agree about them hearing what we can't. My lurcher is terrified of any sharp, cracking noises. We are about a mile away from a Royal Marine barrack...and she will often hear sounds from the rifle range well before I ever do.

I think its a smoke alarm with a flat battery but I can't trace it.
Follow the dogs - they know where it is.
Dogs are not stressed for no reason Bigeye. Is it all time time or at certain times of the day or just random? Is it every room in the house? What has changed recently?

It was a smoke alarm in a house across the road. It would beep once every 1min 15secs. The dogs were trying to dig there way away from it, hide in cupboards etc there's no way that they would have lead me to it. Plus the neighbour has a large Rottweiler and leaves their front door open. The noise has stopped and all is calm now.
