It would be nice if in the OP you added a little snippet of what your views are.
A boy comes home for his first day at school. His mother asks him how his day was.

"Not bad, mum, but I did not really learn much. Apparently I have to go back again tomorrow".

Another boy comes home from his first day at school and was also asked what he thought of it.

"It was quite good but apart from some bloke called Sir who kept spoiling the fun".
And is

before the Smart @rses condemn myself

Grammatically correct ?
TWR, why should this question open a can of worms? It's a straightforward question.
^ MT, no it's not.
Thanks, smart ars...... ;0)
I didn't think about it, it was just expected of me to go all the way.
I presume you posted this in CB so you get more answers?
:-)

JB's posts remind me of my brother's little friend aged 5

Mummy: Come on, time to go to school
Boy: Mum, have you forgotten, I went yesterday!
i was always happy to go to school.
i never played truant or slipped away at any time.
i was never disruptive or mischievous at all.
i loved the lessons - and i did my homework promptly when i got home.
i'm proud of my o'level results.
I started of interested, never got that much encouragement.
did I get any help ......?

Who from ?
Question Author
Far from it Prudie.
I'm with Mick - exactly as I remember school. Was all right until I got to the grammar school (I won a scholarship). From there on it was downhill all the way. A long time ago (I'm in my eighties) and I was the poor kid who had won a scholarship to get there - I will leave you to imagine the rest.
I am a bit puzzled how you thought this would

'open a can of worms'
My recollections of school life are that I received zero encouragement.
In fact on many occasions was actually used by teachers as a subject of ridicule in front of the whole class to make them feel better about themselves and elevate their social standings I guess.
I was in the top band for all subjects but being 'the quiet one' was always an easy target for teacher bullies.

I was obvisouly not in that brand Matt, but for the latter?

Reading one of my school reports recently, one of the teachers wrote....

I sometimes wonder how he manages to find enough effort to breathe!

\\\ I was the poor kid who had won a scholarship to get there -\\\

That's how "poor kids" got an education and in my opinion it worked well.

What chance does a "poor kid" get today?
