Just back from Devon and while we were there saw some "unusual" sheep, although for all I know they may be a well known breed.
They were larger than the average sheep, almost rotund (though some of that could be due to the thickness of the fleece) with very plush, Jersey cow coloured fleeces, and most of them had black faces.
Have googled but can't find them, wish I'd taken a photo.
Btw they were not Dalesbreed, which are also tan coloured.
Just interested to find out what they were if anyone could enlighten me.
Thanks Calibax, think it was the tan coloured variant of the Suffolk. They were not at all skittish, took us a while to persuade about 30 of them to move from where they had all decided to have a rest right up against a gate!
Just like that Howard, except tan coloured. 237SJ, yes your friend is right, sorry was posting at same time as you. Glad to know what they were, it was the colour that seemed unusual, from a distance it looked like a field of Jersey calves, perhaps we both need to go to specsavers :)
