Hi my 8month old miniture jack russell had the snip yesterday and I was told no walkies for 10 days for him, rest, and not to play with his toys for a few days. Ok!!!!! But they dont know Alfie bow wow. hes running round the house like a mad thing, fetched all his toys out of the cupboard. Moaning because he hasnt been out for a walk and keeps running to the door. Hes not in any pain and is eating well. his wound looks fine. Hes as bright as a button. Do I really have to try and keep him quiet and rested ( which is a losing battle.) Would it really harm him if he went for a little walk? I want to do as the vet says but 10 more days of him confined to the house would drive us both crackers. Help please from someone who knows about these things not silly answers. thanks in advance

ask your vet - it might be as much to do with his little wound and possibilities of infection?

When we picked Sprite up from he vets after his snip after 8 hours cage rest he was driving us mad! Took for a short walk round the block. Vets say ten days but usally three is suficient. Keep an eye on the wound and stop him from worrying at the stitches. Did he have intradermal stitches (they glue the top wound rather than stitch) if so dont worry if hes bouncing about, our dogs 5 times size of a jack russell and he didnt damage his. Just grumpy and sore for a few days.

Thank you for your answers, Alfie bow wow (i know) lol hes not touched his stitches at all you wouldnt think he had had them done. he. is playing and jumping on the furniture racing round. eating well and going out for toilet. so i might risk him out on sunday for a walk round golf club.

short walks and keep him on the lead the vets were glad to see the back of our dog-he was hyper even when coming round from the anaesthetic. He then fell off the back seat of the car due to his painkillers doping him up

What a lovely name Alfie Bow Wow. Being the owner of a Jack Russell cross and knowing their temperament, I totally sympathise with you. My JR Meggie got a large lump on her spay wound simply because regardless of advice she had other ideas. It was well nigh impossible to make her rest, and still is (she is now nearing 11)

Don't know what to suggest. All I know is that male cats when they are castrated usually get freedom pretty quickly. Personally though, I do not think that a walk on a lead would do him any ham whatsoever. I have had male dogs castrated and have never been told to keep them quiet and rest for 10 days.

I find that apart from being a bit groggy and sleeping well for the first night they are back to normal the next day. I just try to stop them jumping on/off furniture in case they pop the stitches and keep an eye on them in case they chew. If he gets a short walk and a little play he is less likely to get bored and start investigating his bits (or lack of!)
