About 10 pm on Sunday, my 13 year-old Irish wolfhound bitch died in her sleep. I have two other wolfies, but I couldn't stand the absence of Nuala; it didn't seem right to see an empty bed, as it were. Replacement dog found yesterday, collected today, is a 3 month old Irish wolfhound dog pup with a German sire and a Polish dam, from a a breeder friend.

Now, what to call him ? You have Irish, obviously, but also Polish and German male names to suggest, or any other, though those three seem the natural source

Ah Fred, so sorry for your loss. A new pup always cheers a house up. May I suggest Otto as in III, King of Germany who fostered a good relationship with Poland (so wiki says!)
I'm rubbish with names but just wanted to say sorry for your loss.

Run free Nuala.

The best name to give to a dog is "Dog" just like Columbo (1970's TV detective) with his Basset Hound and my RedBone Hound is called - "Dog" !
Sounds like a Bert to me. I have no idea why.
Really sorry to hear about your loss :-(

How about Adolf? That name doesn't get used enough these days... :-)
So sorry, Fred
She had a long life, and I'm sure a happy one. Sis has a pup born in June in Germany - he is so different from her two year old IW in looks and temperament.
Hugs to the new pup.
Sorry to hear about Nuala - but thirteen is a good age and she died peacefully. It is always sad when a loved one dies.

Keep it going, people ! Only one so far, but thenry's idea reminds me of my Irish mother. She took a kitten from the farm,as a house cat. "What are you going call her?", said I. " 'Cat', of course; I've only the one" A while later, Cat had kittens. My mother kept one. "What are you going to call her?" I asked, safe in the thought "Aha! She now has two! Get out of that!". "'Kitten'",she replied, "I've only got the one".

And Cat lived to about twenty, by which time my mother was yelling "Kitten!" to be greeted by a very long wait and the oldest kitten you ever saw, tottering in, wanting only for a Zimmer grame
Herr Hugo.
Wolfgang , Wolfi for short or Siegfried ..Sigi for short .
Sorry to hear about Nuala .I hope your new pup brings you lots of joy.

^frame^ the Zimmer 'grame'has yet to be invented, though the 'grimmer frame' was devised by Zimmer's rival inventors.
I always said if I got a dog I'd call it Keith. I dunno why, it just amuses me.
