The Time Has Come......for A New Puppy!
It's now 9 months since I lost my dog. Now the time has come to start afresh. Yesterday I saw our new puppy for the first time.
I can hardly wait to be a dog owner again, since being without has made me very lazy, I must admit. I used to be out in all weathers, and now it's too easy to stay at home when it chucks it down.
He's a Welsh Springer Spaniel, 5 weeks old and we're calling him Harry (a Prince called Wales with red hair and a sense of fun:-). We get him mid April, so plenty of time to make the place puppy-safe!
For that reason we've put off the new carpet and suite - let chaos reign!
Marvellous!

We got frustrated by rehoming organizations and their conditions. We live in the city :sorry, you don't have a garden, sorry, you live in a built up area (although parks and dog zones surround us), sorry, you don't have a car (!) to take the dog out of the city. After four attempts we gave up and turned to a certified hobby breeder. No problem, but these things happen for a reason and we're delighted.

So pleased you have found a puppy that suits you - and a Vulnerable Native Breed too! Isn't it strange that some rehoming centres don't seem to want dogs to go to good experienced homes - their policies are so strict that they lose out on homes like yours. Our breed rescue is very flexible and we look at each case individually - we have just rehomed one to a man of 83 who has taken on one of our oldies and they are ideally suited to each other. He had been turned down by other rescues as being too old to care for a dog, even though he is fit and healthy and has family back up.
As many ABers know I live in Vienna and there are so many poor dogs brought in from surrounding former Eastern Bloc countries, and yet these private organizations make it so hard to adopt.
There is only one breeder of WSS in Austria and she has a litter only every couple of years at most, so it was just serendipity. You don't have to be rich - just lucky ;))
