Lost my 12 year old GSD on Tuesday and I am totally gutted. Not slept or ate properly since. The hardest decision I have ever had to make but I know it was the best thing for him , doesn't make it any easier though x

jasmine. you have my sympathies, the passing of a beloved companion does hurt of course - but time heals all wounds.
just remember all the good times you both had
Sorry to hear your loss, my old dogs time is coming she is 16, a westie, more doddery now on her legs, and when startled slips on the lino floor, (deaf as a post till she hears the word biscuit from in the garden) bloody horrible when they get old, i can imagine what younare going through, take 1 day at a time, take care, x
Although of I have had many dogs since him and lost them over the years, the loss of my first GSD Barney back in 1988 still makes me well up when I think of him. He was my constant companion and personal bodyguard, although as soft as a brush but I would not rate anyone's chances of getting past him if he thought I was in danger. His photo is by my bed, wearing his first ever rosette which also hangs on the wall. So many others have come and gone and the present one is just three years old, although I lost an almost eighteen year old Heeler a couple of weeks ago. Think of him with a smile and remember the good times. You did your best for him and he will be grateful you did not let him suffer. Hugs (and I don't do them very often!).
Sorry for your loss, we dread the day when we lose a wolfie :-(
There's a poem I post to try and comfort those on AB who have had to make the decision to part with a dearly loved pet. I found it helped me, I hope it helps you too.

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle cannot be won
You will be sad I understand
Don't let your grief then stay your hand
For this day more than all the rest
Your love for me must stand the test
We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer so
The time has come, please let me go
Take me where my needs they'll tend
And please stay with me until the end
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see
I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you do for me
Although my tail it's last has waved
From pain and suffering I've been saved
Please do not grieve, it must be you
Who has this painful thing to do
We've been so close we two these years
Don't let your heart hold back it's tears

I hope you find some comfort in these words, I do not know who wrote it but it seemed so right when we lost our dear old cat a few years ago.

Such a lovely poem nungate, made me cry ... again but thank you for posting it xx
So sorry to hear that jasmine,
My heart goes out to you, I lost my King Charles in feb, had to make the decision, and held him as he went,
Tears running down my face now just thinking about it. X X
I hope you have plenty of photos and happy memories. X
I'm so sorry for your loss and I'm afraid it takes longer than a week to get over it. I've just passed the 2 year anniversary of Hamish's death and I still get upset. However, it is true that little things will remind you of them and as time goes on, you remember things you'd forgotten all about, I still do.
