Please can I appeal to dog owners to keep their dogs at home in this heat, they are much better off in the shade with a bowl of water than going to the shops or for walks in the heat of the day, my neighbour brought his greyhound/whippet home yesterday and she had a fit and died on the doorstep, the vet gave him a right telling off, and so did I, he is very upset and knows it was his fault, early morning or just as the suns goes down if you can, and not to far please.
I've taken to shutting the dog inside wheni im sitting out in the sun, as try as i might, she refuses to sit anywhere in the shade and plants herself next to me. Within minutes she's been panting, so as ive said, ive taken to shoving a very peed off dog inside.
No matter what the weather always had his main walk before 06.00. It's the best part of the day nobody about but you and your dog and the if it does get really hot he only needed little walks to do his business. When he was at home he had several shady spots in the garden depending where the sun was and strategically water bowls all over the place though his favourite source of water was the fish pond.
My poor hound is really struggling at the moment, he's got a massive furry coat and the poor thing (read poor me) is moulting. He goes on his walk about 8 oclock in the morning. Then he comes in and stays in the bathroom for most of the day.
Please don't be too hard on your neighbour, he's just lost his best friend :(
nice - man watches his dog die horribly in front of him then gets a telling off by his neighbour. That must have been really helpful in dealing with his grief/guilt!
trouble is bedknobs, he can be out washing his car at five thirty am, when he could have walked the dog, the neighbours all told him that's what they were doing, its the dog I felt for.
Our two are out about 06:30-07:00 for about an hour,
since then they've gone between the balcony, which is in direct sun from about midday, and the lounge which is shady and has a couple of big ceiling fans,
'tis a hard life they live!
Look - I don't want to go out in the sun so why should I expect a poor little animal to like it! (Grump, misery and bah humbug - oh sorry that's for Christmas!)
Lol Baz, I wouldn't be brave enough myself a the moment, he's usually so patient with me especially when I'm taking chunks of loose fur off him, but in this heat he did give me a bit of a telling off. The poor sod felt a bit guilty after so laid on my feet all evening.
