Horrible Day:(
51 Answers
First thing this morning one of my dogs didn't look herself at all having been fine last night so we took her to the vet who said she had an elevated temperature and her heart rate was abnormally quick, so we left her there to undergo tests etc and be treated as needed. Had a call to say that she died. Just picked her up and the vet said she went into shock, he had no idea what caused it or why. He could do a post mortem but it won't bring her back so we brought her home and my brothers are burying her in the garden. So upset I can't speak.

My condolences as well, but with a word of caution. The symptoms you describe and sudden death are often seen in dogs that have ingested poison... usually an arsenic deriviative, which is the favorite of people who intentionally poison dogs.
I'd hope that your dog hadn't been out and about or some other facts that would rule out that possibility, but, over the years we've lost 2 dogs to intentional poisoning...
We've also had friends that have lost dogs to ingestion of antifreeze (Ethylene glycol) used in cars. I'm sure you vet would have recognized such symptoms, but sometimes the obvious is overlooked.
Again, sorry for the loss...

It is a horrible feeling when one of your furry family dies - and you have had no time to prepare yourself for it.
I am sure that any other furry friend in the household will also be upset.
This might be a bit tactless but - did your brothers dig a really deep hole? It needs to be pretty deep.
