One of my guinea pigs has just started to bite me for no apparent reason, she has always been quite timid. We are always very careful around her.  Can anyone suggest what the best course of action is to avoid this happening on a regular basis?

Maybe she is ill or hurt and is trying to get your attention.  I would phone the vet and ask.

try giving her a chewing wood as her teeth might be too long and she needs to gnaw on something.
