Male Cat Urinating On Carpet

My daughter has an 8 month male cat who has had the operation done a few weeks ago, but he is still urinating on the new carpet which has been laid in the sitting room, she has tried sprays from the vets which was supposed to stop this happening but he is still doing it, she has to leave him outside all day but he insists on weeing on the carpet, has anybody got any help please to stop him from doing this. Thank you

what spray do you mean? to clean the carpet?

No, i`m not sure of the name of it but it is supposed to be a deterrent.

He's maybe still getting the smell of his previous "deposits" on the carpet.

If your daughter sprinkles bicarbonate of soda on the carpet and leaves it for about half an hour and then hoovers it up, hopefully that should help break the cycle.

And don't use anything pine scented to clean up, apparently they love the smell and it only encourages them to wee in the same spot.

Probably asking the obvious. Has he got a litter tray where he can get to easily. If so keep putting him into it, once he has used it he should get used to his own scent and use it more frequently. Re carpet she will have to eradicate the odour as suggested in previous posts.

Bicarb... will tell her. Yes she has a litter tray for him but he uses it when he feels like it but other times he use, she had it all changed so his odour was no longer there but it just hasnt helped, she said she will have to give him away if she cant stop him doing it. x

are you saying she changed the carpet? if he's done it a lot, the smell will be not only on the carpet but the underlay and the floorboards. Zybax works but you have to saturate the area to get it down to the floorboards

ps, how easy do you think it will be to rehome a cat that pees in the house?

Yes she has changed the carpet and underlay, soaked the floor boards with the spray she bought from the vets and it didnt help. I would have him as i already have 2 cats and i have wood floors so be easier to clean and keep him in the kitchen where the floor is tiled. I will tell her about the other spray. Thank you

Could the cat be scared of something so it cant help itself from marking it's territory in the room? Could it be scared of neighbourhood cats that it can see from a window or are in the garden etc?
