It's a Cairn terrier about 10 years old. During its walks it will flop down and not move for a minute or so. It's also off its food and when it get in after the walk it goes and lies under a bed most of the day.

looks like a trip to the vet sandy sorry
If it is only since the hot weather it 'may' be heat related.

Regardless a trip to the vet. Is this your hound Sandy?
Question Author
I remember the vet examined it soon after we got it and said it might develop joint problems. This could be the start of that. I guess a trip to the vet is called for.
Unlikely to be joint problems making it flop down and not move. More likely to be the heat, or maybe a slight heart problem. Vet will be able to check. Is it overweight? That won't help if it is.
Question Author
She has gained 2 lbs since we got her. I suppose that is a big weight gain for a small dog. I'll take her to the vet on Monday morning.
And in the meantime sandy, keep her as cool as you possibly can.
I agree with lankeela, a heart problem needs to be excluded.
Also anaemia springs to mind.
A blood test will clear things up.
Could you not go to the vet's this evening sandy ?
Question Author
Thank you all.
We'll see what we see on Monday.

Viv38, I need to arrange for someone to come and be with my other 'charge', so no.
Oh OK.
Sandy ..do you have an update on your little dog ? Was it just heat related ? We had Cairns when I was growing up, tons of personality, dear little dogs. Hope all is well
Question Author
Seekeers, I think it was the heat was getting to her. It was a lot cooler here yesterday and today than it had been and when she was out she was pulling at her lead and enjoying a decent walk.
Good news Sandy, I think the heat was getting to all of us

all my thoughts, sandy

True enough, Psybbo. It makes me a bit grumpy but I haven't started sitting down in the street and refusing to walk. Though give me time. :-)
Oh that is good news, Sandy, heat can really get to them when they getting on a bit but you know what to look for now. Cheers !
my little pug has been struggling too sandy. so its short walk in the morning and a long one in the evening when its cooled down a bit for us. Glad he's ok now. They are a worry aren't they?
So long as you don't expect us to carry you home !! Lol
