Vibrating Dog Collar
45 Answers
I have a little "rescue rascal" dog and have just purchased a vibrating collar. The instruction of the fitting states "If your pets neck is less than 12"around you will need to thread the part of the collar which includes the antenna through the buckle. It will be a tight fit.
This tight fit seems impossible.
Am I correct in endeavouring to thread the collar through the buckle that holds the vibrator - I don't think it can be done.
Any advise would be appreciated.
Many thanks

I looped the extra long bit back on its self and a loopy knot, mine only kept hers on for a little while each time

Islay, these come with a remote control and some (but NOT all) give electric shocks

Thank you Baldric I thought I had not been mistaken about the electric shock (which got deleted for some reason yesterday). I remember having a heated conversation about these collars on a Stand at an Agricultural show a while back. shortcuts to proper training. Negative Reinforcement techniques rarely work long term.
Well some folks are (hopefully not the OPer) or they wouldn't keep selling them

Because when I googled dogwell DW998N that's what I got. ES or vibration, there are kinder ways. People (dog lovers) are just trying to help Sue but you seem reluctant to give information.
IF it is a barking problem?? then please do read Victoria Stilwell's advice. She is a lady who believes in positivity when training.

regardless of whether the collar shocks or vibrates, its a punishment. It is not a right or kind thing to do to the dog.....more to the point, it won't teach the dog to recall or not to run away. If the OP already has a link with a decent trainer, then she should discuss the matter with them, if the trainer suggested the collar, then she should find a new trainer.
If someone came on here asking how to use a stick to beat their dog with then there would be uproar and no one would "answer the original question". Using a vibrating collar, even without a shock facility is also a physical punishment, albeit a more subtle one.

Mamy now you've got me wondering. This is what I got but looking at it, it would seem not to recognise the number Sue gave and that was when I clicked on the actual Dogwell website.

Anyway, Wolf is right, it's a punishment whichever shock it gives. Such a shame Sue is unwilling to discuss with people who have the dog's well being at heart. I have fostered for several dog rescues over the years and they would not rehome a dog where one of these devices would be used. At the risk of being jumped on, I would describe it as on the verge of abuse if not actual abuse.
I hope Sue reads Victoria Stilwell's link and changes her mind. There are kinder ways to train a dog, whatever the problem.
