Three Reminders For The Easter Weekend

. . . just because someone is bound to forget ;-)

1. Public transport is likely to have timetable changes. (Around here, some rail lines have a Sunday service on Friday and Monday, whereas others have a Saturday service and yet others have a modified weekday service. There's also loads of engineering work to muck things up as well) ;

2. The clocks go forward on Saturday night (or, if you're a pedant, on Sunday morning) ; and

3. [The one that lots of people seem to forget!] All large stores, including supermarkets, have to remain closed on Easter Sunday!

4. Buenchico hasn't had an Easter egg for years and all donations will be gratefully accepted. (Er, how did that get in there?)

Actually, as I was typing about Easter eggs and thinking 'chocolate' my mind turned to our much-loved chocolate stout, which I'd happily accept instead of an egg ;-)

That reminds me of when I was working in a pub (at the age of 19) and a guy complained that his pint of lager didn't taste right. I knew that he was just 'trying it on' (as he'd done many times before) so I picked up his glass, downed the pint in one, handed the empty glass back to him and said "Seemed OK to me".

Fortunately, he had a good sense of humour and bought a fresh pint for himself and another one for me as well. They were the sort of customers I really liked!

I've been told that chocolate wine is rather nice, Lynne, but I've not tried it myself.

Tony is obviously pished as he's not only seeing double but posting the same link twice as well ;-)

I used to laugh at those who brought the glass back to the bar with about an inch left and announce 'Think the barrel needs changing this tastes awful'.

I've not often been conned behind a bar but I did get caught out by the smartly dressed, well-spoken, stereotypical 'little old lady' who came in one lunchtime and ordered two different drinks, only to realise that here friend (who was 'following on behind') had got her purse. She was most apologetic and assured me that she'd pay for the drinks as soon as her friend arrived. Of course, I was soon distracted by serving other customers, only to then find two empty glasses and no little old lady. To make it worse, all of the pub regulars were laughing because they all knew her and said that she'd used the same trick in every pub for miles around! (My excuse was that I was only 18 years old and only been working behind the bar for a couple of weeks. I found that I needed to learn very quickly!)
