Prisoners And Pets

Asked this elsewhere on another thread but CB seems to have more traffic now...
If someone gets sent down and they have pets at home (in this instance, 3 dogs) what happens to the animals?
My sons mate got 15 months today and he has 3 dogs left at home. My son is staying at his flat tonight to walk and feed the dogs but the council will be taking repossession of the flat and no provision is in place for the animals.

Most likely end up at a dog rescue centre or if unlucky, with the RSPCA.

These dogs are high value pedigree dogs BTW and well cared for and wanted

That is sad, poor things. What does this mate want done with them? If they are pedigree then maybe the breed club could help out with fostering maybe?

He wants to keep them Prudie, they are basically his 'family' as corny as that sounds. He wasn't expected to go to prison and now he has lost not only his freedom but also his accommodation and his beloved dogs whom he doted on...again sounds corny I know

Unless friends and family can take them in, they will go to the dog rescue charity.

As Douglas has said, they will probably be sent to a Dog Rescue Centre, to hopefully be re-homed.
If nothing in place, and knowone prepared to take them in....that is the likely outcome. If none of your son's mates family and friends want them, until he is released, what else can be done for them?

It helps if they are friendly and calm to be re-homed, otherwise if a little vicious, that won't be good news for the dogs.They could be,in this instance, put down.

Let's hope that a family member or friend takes them in.

He hasn't really got much family left to speak of, hence the fact that his dogs 'were his family'

Could they be sold on gumtree, where the owner could contact new owners to buy back the dogs (or any prodigies) when he is free.

Yogi, I would take them myself but I'm not allowed dogs in my flats. None of his family can take them either. Placid and docile dogs (not to mention 'expensive' will be destroyed)

I used to work for the RSPCA and have defended them on here on numerous occasions. Beginning to wonder now....

Pedigree dogs are not put down if theyre sociable but kennels will stop them from breeding before releasing them.
