What a tragic story, I do hope that poor little baby Reuben survives.

Could it have been a tragic accident, Staffordshire Bull Terriers are generally placid dogs in fact they are called 'Nanny dogs' because they are good with children.

I thought it to be a little over the top for the poor parents to be arrested and placed in hand cuffs, what do others think?

i don't know, a new born shouldn't really be left, depends on what actually happened. Dogs of any breed can be jealous, especially if the baby cries a lot, maybe they were playing and it got too rough.

Well I suppose we don't know the full story - were the parents suspected of neglecting the child and that's why they were led away in cuffs.
I suppose we will have to wait further updates.

Staffs are not dangerous breeds - we don't have the full story yet but don't let that stop you jumping to conclusions!

I think it's common knowledge not to leave a child unattended with a dog.

My dad had a Staff and there was no way I'd take my kids round and leave them unattended with her.

I still cannot understand why they were handcuffed, I would imagine they would have been too distraught to have resisted arrest.

emmie -I don't think a one month old baby would have been 'playing' with two dogs at 1.49 am!
My idea....Baby starts crying, parents too tired/drunk/drugged to respond, dogs alerted and go in to room smell baby smells and attack it.
Parents were handcuffed for a reason, They were probably 'incapacitated' in some way.

I've been looking into adopting a dog and at least half of all the rescue dogs in our local pound are Staffies. I wonder why, if they are such nice dogs?

not the baby playing i was assuming that the dogs were, obviously not, so the parents could have been out for the count, sure there will be an update on this at some point.

Because AL they require a lot of play and stimulation.
They are lovely dogs if looked after correctly.
I have friends that have several and they are simply wonderful.

Because they were taken into custody as prisoners Mr aog.Arrested for suspected child neglect.
It is standard operationg procedure when escorting prisoner(s) especially in a vehicle for the safety of the officers.In this day and age officers may also be single manning but obviously not in this case.

Brought up in the correct way they are just 'softies'. They have got a bad name because certain thuggish thickies, train them to be nasty, and then swagger with them on a lead, to give the impression that their owners are some kind of tough guys.
