Every Forum seems to be clogged up with "Ban Fireworks" calls because it frightens Darling Little Moggy or Doggy.

How about "Ban Dogs and Cats", they cause more discomfort and/or distress all the year round to those who don't share this sanctimonius pets-come-first obsession.

Oh, not again. This has been done to death.
Yawn.
Well they do. Surely, any living thing comes before fireworks?
Mine enjoy them, they actually sit in the garden and watch... but I see many animals don't. So why do they not matter?
No, I think fireworks should only be banned to the general public some of whom couldnt find their own bottom with both hands. Because they are dangerous. (Some of the public and all fireworks).
I like cats except for their propensity to kill birds / don't mind (friendly) dogs but I wouldn't keep either. I'm sure most responsible owners can find ways to protect them from occasional anticipated noise.
Fireworks is a cost/benefit analysis - cost, noise, danger versus enjoyment derived.
Lol so much for all the woe that austerity has brought us. People, apparently, still have money to burn at the expense and discomfort of others. :-(
My cockerapoo is unfazed by it all , so we are lucky,I don’t want it banned, we all enjoyed it as children , or most of us did,but I would like to see organised displays only now
I blame the Chinese.
Yes. Chows are terrible :-)
I tried to rescue a poor cat ravaged pigeon today. It was in shock but took some seed. After a while it was gone.
Well done:-). I have tried that a few times. I can only hope they recovered from the shock, once they disappeared.
I’d have had to leave the poor thing, I’m terrified of them
That pigeon may have already been too weak, and therefore vulnerable to capture by a cat. What if the pigeon had been mauled by a bird-of-prey? Is that different?
It is different, Pasta, because a bird of prey would eat it out of necessity, not just kill it for fun.
"What if the pigeon had been mauled by a bird-of-prey? Is that different?"

Yes - the bird of prey is hunting to live whereas the cat probably gets well fed from one or more houses & kills merely from instinct not for food.
added to which if the bird is a dove type it's mate will often die as a result of the loss
Must admit, I find all this ''bonfire night frightens my pet'' thing a little odd as the same people saying this are probably tucking in to a little roast beef, chicken or pork, without a thought of how cows, hens or pigs must have felt at the slaughter house...
They aren't pets though, Nailit, and are rarely treated as such.
While I agree, nailit, and I was vegetarian for many years... there is never an excuse for animals being frightened or mistreated. That is something that diws need to be sorted asap xx
