Had my renewed pet insurance come through couple of days ago, for my 13 year old cat.
£70. 59! It's jumped astronomically last few years.
Apparently, when they turn 8 years old, they add on 20•/• because of old age illnesses.
Quite a shock..
I ended up cancelling my pet insurance when the premiums got too high. I had enough savings to pay for any treatment so it was not a difficult decision to make.
When I was working I got insurance because I never had any spare cash.
The only time that I was stunned when told how much treatment would cost was when Frankie got four teeth out and some blood tests for his kidneys. It was £400. I looked at the receptionist and said "How much??".
I've got two weeks to cancel. It's a difficult decision. If I stop it, it's sod's law something will go wrong. Although I have a little savings, it wouldnt last long. My gut feeling is telling me to hang on fir at least one more year. I dont know how a lot of young people manage to have pets these days, especially when struggling with bills themselves.
I talked it over with one of the vets, we discussed the likelihood of anything that needed really expensive treatment happening. I was lucky that they were indoor cats.
I did have insurance for my dogs - one was an escape artist and he could have been up to mischief when he was out.
The other had a problem with his teeth - he had been badly treated before I got him and he thought that sticking them in other dogs or scary people would be a good idea. Attack before they attack him!
OMG that's per month, that's nearly £900 a year for how many years? Have you totalled what you've paid so far? Have you ever made a claim? I don't bother getting insurance on either of my cats but then I suppose I'm lucky I can pay unexpected vet bills. Even so,I have had a couple of bills in the 200 to 300 pound region but still spent way less than if I insured them both year after year.
Thats a lot Patsy - I thought that was for a year too - no no too much.
My neighbour had no insurance on her dog called "Lady" - Lady was 16 years old but she fell downstairs - they paid £1000 for treatment only for Lady died a few weeks later.
I've made about 5- 6 claims, Prudie.
He got knocked by a car when he was 13 months. When he was about 3, he had structure stones that blocked his bladder. That was about £750 ..
He had 2 cancerous lumps removed about 3 years ago. Last 18 months, had 2 nasty cat bites by side of his ear. Ironic, he doesn't go out much..
So, I've been glad I've had insurance!
