Jack Russells In The Military
The SAS has decided to use Jack Russells in their war against terror.
I am not keen on small dogs and much prefer cuddlier hounds like a German Shepherd.
It's an interesting idea - they are snashy little things.

TTT - are you going to convince your two to sign up to the SAS. Tell them that they can bite loads of bad guys without being reprimanded. (my brother calls them the Spawn of the Devil) :-)

Milo, I am sure that the SAS would pay you to do doggy stuff. Is Ken really pathetic? Separation anxiety in humans is a hard thing to fix.
I think that you should look after your human. Are you 100% devil dog or are you one of those mixed-breed dogs?
I love dogs but I confess to having a strange fascination with cats. I bet you love cats. ☺

wolf63, when i was a child we had but probably not allowed now, an ex police or forces alsation, had to be muzzled and no unvetted people in the house ie people the dog did know, fenced in garden real high to, best dog we ever had, my father absolutely adored this dog, and that love was returned, for him and whole family, but he was dangerous to strangers, would he absolutely in a heart beat.
// Malinois, they are incredible working dogs. //
Well, well. I never knew there was such a breed. Re: Incredible working dogs. I'll take your word for it!
The article reads that the JR will not be used as an attack dog but for sniffing out explosives and other arms.
A friend of mine once made the mistake of thinking because it was a JR it couldn't possibly hurt him. It left a cylindrical hole in his calf. A trip to the hospital necessitated. It took approx 2 weeks before his gait was fully restored.
This is testimony, just because it's a little dog, doesn't mean its bite hurts any less than that from a big dog.
As for my friend, at the time he worked as a postman. He's 6 ft 2" and 19 stone. He still recalls the pain he had to endure, cus the little B*&!*%? just wouldn't let go!

fender -I adopted a 5-year-old lab/GSD from Dundee dog pound in 1992. He had been there for months and nobody wanted him. I fell in love with him, we bonded right away and he still loved me after he lost his goolies at the vet.
He was great with me, my family and a couple of my friends. He was a total psycho to everyone else and had to be muzzled until he calmed down a little. With me, he was gentle and loving. He didn't have a military background but he was a Dundonian - I live in a fair city a distance from Dundee.
Zebu - JRs are total psychos, as are Yorkies and Chihuahuas. They tend to get off with being snarly because they are just little dogs. My Bullmastiff/GSD cross was attacked by a JR and was terrified of them.
Malinois (Belgian Shepherds) have tons of energy and are very athletic. I am not sure if they make good pets as they need to be constantly doing something. If you watch the video I posted you will be amazed. I prefer the bigger-boned, longhaired German Shepherds but the Belgian Shepherds are ideal for Police work.
