My Dog Is In Danger Of Losing His Walker Because ...

he won't stop barking when he is in her car with other dogs. She lives in the same block as us so he is the first to be collected. She then has to drive around and collect the other dogs due to be walked that day. They then all have a run about for a minimum of one hour. After that, all dogs back in their cages and back home being dropped off one by one. So he is in the car the longest and he barks non stop and loudly and he's giving my walker a headache. For the first time ever she has cancelled a walk:-(

The only time he barks when he is in my car with me is if a motor cyclist comes too close but he shuts up as soon as they have gone. But he is barking more lately at home I've noticed. I'm told dogs bark more as they age but I have not experienced this with the many dogs I have had in my life.

Any good suggestions anyone please?

Blue, thank you, but a muzzle is to stop a dog biting not barking.

Wolfe, thank you. xx
^^^ wot wolf said, with a back up of a powerpoint presentation of the consequences to him if he doesn't comply should work.

LOL bednobs. If only.
Some councils are restricting the number of dogs anyone can walk to four - personally I would not want anyone to walk mine with more than that in case anything happened - I have six dogs of my own but only ever walk them 3 and 3 or 4 and 2 in case I meet anyone with an out of control dog that they can't call away.

How did your dog get on yesterday on the way back from his walk ?
Question Author
AA thank you for asking. I'm afraid he barked all the way back:-(.
When I originally suggested a muzzle, I fully realised it was primarily to prevent biting. I just wonder if it would make any difference.

Have you tried giving him a toy to chew/play with in the car ?

Does he bark while having a run ?
How long is the journey back home ? Is he barking out of distress or is he like a lot of dogs just barking ?

Whatever he has in his mouth he drops it when he enters his cage in the car. And barks all the way with what I guess is excitement at knowing he is going for a walk. He just loves his walks.
I've no idea why he does it on his way home again. Oh and no he doesn't bark on his run. Too busy sniffing.

He's usually out for about 2.5 hours, more sometimes. They run for minimum one hour so divide the rest by 2 so that's roughly 40-45 mins each way. Lots of that will be sitting in a queue.

I shall definitely ask her if she has a seat available that he can be strapped into.

Latest for those still interested is that I told her to bring him back if he started barking as soon as she set off. She didn't want to but I told her I doubted it would take him more than a week at most to learn the lesson.

So he's back after 3 minutes. Not bothered!! Asleep in his bed.
Shame you haven't found a solution but your dog won't learn his lesson by stopping the walks for a week
Awe, I’m sorry. That’s a long walk he has in the am.
Is he upsetting the other dogs ? . Dogs bark especially if they are excited/ scared. Is the grate to blame do you think.
Don’t give up try and find a Walker suitable to your dog and you. Good luck .

colin does that - he loves his walks and barks when in the cage - our dog walker says she doesn't hear it as all dogs make noise when in the van.
Jess does it too but not so much
*** grate . Ooft
I watched a police programme one night, it was about police dogs.

The huge GSD in the back of the van was barking along to the nee naws. He was just enjoying his work and looking forward to arresting some bad guy.
Lol, he naws, sorry lb .

She came and took him this afternoon and said he still barked but not as much as usual. That was on the way out. On the way back he was his usual loud self. So a slight improvement and we'll see how tomorrow goes.

Thank you all for your interest.
Is he by any chance little?
Question Author
