can a cat with three legs go outside and live normally?

No problem richard! My sister's cat lopes about outside quite happily,and manages to catch the odd mouse too! For a cat,losing a leg is not nearly as traumatic as for a human.I have known of other cats too,who wouldn't let the loss of a leg stop them from doing all the usual things they are so expert at!

Animals have no self-image, so they don't notice. One of our cats lost a back leg in an RTA in 2000: she was climbing trees as soon as the stitches came out.

Make sure they take the thighbone off so there's no weight on that side and her balance will hardly be affected.

Ours is now 8 and there's no sign of arthritis.
Ours did and managed very well. Sadly, she fell from oue extension roof (no, I've no idea how she got up there), and smashed a second one. Unfortunately, there's no going back then.

If you are interested my cat is now on the road to recovery and thanks ever so much for helping me with your answers. Ferdie should be out in the real world soon with four legs.
