Hiya,

My elder ladrador has recently lost a lot of hair, she has been seen by my vet, who has given her an injection of antibiotics, but i want to know what i can do to encourage the hair to regrow. I have washed her in a soothing shampoo/conditioner and a special shampoo to calm down skin irritation (she hasnt got fleas, but itches like its a habbit). I have also used a product called Stockholm Tar, but is there anything I can give her to heal her skin from within, like adding oil/ raw eggs to her biscuits, or more protein with meat?

She is very active and a very happy dog, but she just looks so skinny and old with her bad coat. shes never had a nice glossy coat, like my other dogs and always had flaky skin.

Thanks

pick up some omega3 fatty acids from the vet. They come in a liquid and the bottle is usually less than $20. Should help promote healthier fur as it grows back.
There is a very good food called Nutro Choice which claims to guarantee to improve skin and coat condition. Haven't used it but know several people who do. Personally I use Eukanuba and all my dogs have lovely shiny coats.

I also sometimes add a teaspoon of vegetable oil to my dogs feeds, about two or three times a week. Or you could use margerine.

There is a product called Restore which is a supplement aimed specifically at restoring hair, produced by Dog Health. www.doghealth.co.uk

Any product with neem oil in it, such as those used on horses, should help.
