F*****g Fireworks!
26 Answers
What is the matter with ignorant imbecilic morons who feel the need to let off fireworks on 30th September when bonfire night is not until 5th November?
My dogs get very upset by them, and nearer bonfire night I am able to prevent them from suffering too much, but why, oh why, do they do it tonight without any chance of a warning?
Never mind banning dogs, ban bloody fireworks.

In Northern Ireland you have to have a licence even for a display in your own garden.
There are laws restricting their sale to four weeks before Bonfire Night. Why don't the police/trading standards enforce this?

Wow, a post where I actually disagree with jno, I'm truly shocked and slightly saddened- lol ;-)
Fireworks should be illegal and sold to organised events only. I live in a fairly rough town where yobs think nowt of letting them off outside my house (on the main road) at all hours of the night. They'll also quite happily throw them at any passing cat, car, kid, person whatever.
My own dog is a gibbering wreak from now till about mid November, and just about calms down in time for the New Year ones!!!

I'm guessing they could be prosecuted for offensive behaviour and buried under three tons of asbos already, B00. But it would be a matter of getting the police energised, which would still be a problem if you wanted to catch illegal sellers - you probably saw this one: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question29 9588.html
Didn't read it no jno, but will now- lol.
I have absolutely no faith in our local police, their building is on same road, just a bit further up from me. Not one of them come out to investigate the fireworks almost right outside their door. These are the same police who I was disgusted about a few months ago- remember my woman with baby in car post?
I've gone and done it again- I'm sorry about the thread hijack lankeela.

lankeela, I agree wholeheartedly. One of my sister's dogs nearly dies of fear every New Year - or of an exploding bladder, as she's too afraid to go out. This goes on for weeks, and my sister ends up a wreck too, suffering with her dog.
BOO, I share your shock at jno suddenly teaming up with Cruella De Vil. (You don't suppose it's an impostorjno?)
(jno, you know I love you almost all da time.)

there you go then, lankeela and B00, call the social police and get out your decibel meters... you too, Swede, if they have bold gendarmes up your way as well. I honestly wonder if this sort of regulation has any effect at all - clearly doesn't round your way, lankeela - but you might be able to take some action.
i sympathise, lankeela. I thought the point of fireworks used to be to make colourful displays in the sky, now it just seems to be a competition to find the one with the loudest explosion. My little village sounds like downtown Baghdad most nights from mid-October to mid-November and my poor dog hates it.
I can't blame it on Diwwali either. I live in one of those quaint Daily Mail-loving, "vote for anything as long as it's wearing a blue rosette" type villages on the South Coast. If the local Blue Rinse Brigade saw anyone foreign-looking round here (owners of the local Tandoori just about excepted), they'd all drive their Batricars into the sea out of shock. We have a few youths who let fireworks off, but the biggest culprits seem to be family men having a mid-life crisis.

there were fireworks being let off here on Thursday night for a birthday party, there is a place near here that sells firworks to pubs and clubs for their events and it is infuriating, the vet gave me tablets to calm my dogs, especially Bingo as he is epileptic, but they have to be given in time for them to work when needed.
As pretty as fireworks are, their use should be regulated and those regulations enforced. I love firework displays but feel they belong in the hands of professionals, not every Tom, Dick and Harry! So many pets are needlessly distressed because people are only concerned for their own pleasure and don't give a toss about their neighbours. And just ask your local A&E about the amount of people that come in having been injured by fireworks - these are almost always people who have been setting them off incorrectly or innocent bystanders. A friend of mine rescued a beautiful puppy once that had had fireworks tied to its body and had then been set alite. You have never seen such a frightened dog in your life before! Luckily loveing care and several months of vet's treatments heled this little dog to trust again.
