Rat urine
7 Answers
No sure where to post this, but here goes....
We have a holiday home in France. Occasionally in winter we get intruders of the 4-legged kind that cause damage. Last time rats got into the living room and peed over the sette which now smells badly of urine (very strong ammonia smell).
We have tried to clean it (disinfectant, hand-held steam cleaner), but the smell lingers. Short of throwing the sette away (and covering the new one in plastic when we are not there) any other suggestions?

Perhaps the only way of deterring them is to lay down liberal doses of rat poison in rooms when you close your home up for the winter. Vets often sell products which help reduce the smell of animal urine. I can't remember the name of it but when our cat peed on our car upholstery we got a very effective odour eliminator from them. . Perhaps it's worth Googling Animal Urine smell remover and seeing what this produces.
