Please Help my labrador is shedding her coat and its really excessive its seems to be going on for about 6 weeks and is showing no signs of stopping its getting to the stage where me and my husband are cracking up, Normally she would be inside if im not working and this is fine if she is not shedding but I have to leave her outside a lot more, its about six weeks now and even though she is only in at nite its still really bad any suggestions to speed up this process would be good, she is brushed every day would professional grooming make a difference?

Hi - Labs are renowned for shedding plenty of hair! But then again, most dogs that are kept indoors molt mostly all year round - and we have central heating to thank for that. Its normal and just something we dog lovers have to put up with im afraid. Get a better hoover lol.....
Trouble is, if she is outside during the day, then inside in the centrally heated house at night, her body doesn't know what to do. Its obviously easier to take her coat off than to grow a new one, so until the winter is over she will probably continue to shed as long as you bring her in at night. Poor love, she is probably feeling the cold during the day, so make sure she has plenty of warm bedding wherever she is housed.
I could knit a jumper at times from my cross lab.I have found that regular professional grooming keeps the shedding under control and also oil on his food helps plus a good brush every couple of days or so. I used to give him Vitapet moult formula on his food but after reading some suggestions on here I just use sunflower or olive oil now. He goes every couple of months to the groomer and they strip out his thick double coat. It's central heating that's to blame in my opinion.
They seem to shed much more in the winter when the heating is on.

Sorry havent been online this week thanks for all your answers shaneystar I didnt know that about the olive oil I have also used the vitapet formula will definatley give that a go,she has a kingsize duvet in her kennel so she is cosy enough during the day aswell.
Try combing her with an old/well used hack saw blade. Sounds cruel but it really cuts out the old dead hair. The best grooming tool for a short haired dog I have come accross.
