moulting dog

I have a rough collie who is 8 years old. At the moment she is moulting and it is coming out in big lumps. I am picking it up all day long. Is this ok.? as I have never known her to moult this bad and at this time of year. I also have another rough collie and he sint moulting at all. many thanks

I sympathise with you, my dog has also decided to blow his coat, apparently it�s because it has been a mild winter!!!

Shaney is the same and I am sure it's the mild weather.Also once the heating is on he seems to moult more.He has a really thick coat too and I could knit a jumper from the amount of hair around the place.
The only solution I have found is a good brush every day and I also put oil on his food which helps plus I have him bathed and his coat stripped out every couple of months at the groomers which does cut down on the shedding somewhat.

All rough's moult at least once a year, and not all at the same time - unspayed bitches sometimes twice dependant on their heat cycle. I usually find it is four months to come out and four months to grow back! But quickest way to get it out is to bath the dog, dry it with hairdryer and you will get majority of the undercoat out in one go, but be warned that for the next week or so it will be everywhere, just keep brushing! I have one that is starting to moult, and one that is just coming back into coat, unfortunately the one that is moulting is entered at Crufts in March! You could also try giving the dog Restore, or some other coat product to bring the coat back into condition.
