Over sociable Puppy!!

My puppy (Pickles - a Bedlington Terrier) is nealy 5 months old and LOVES other dogs and people when we are out walking. She just runs up to them and jumps excitedly!! At what age does this lessen and any hints on how to tackle this. Its not so bad at home cos I can hold her collar and repeat 'off' a lot to calm her.

Keep her on an extendable lead and when she lunges forward just reel her in with a "come" command and she should get the message.
I think it a dog should be discouraged from being too friendly with random people especially in the current "all dogs are killers" climate. You just don't know what kind of legal rubbish you could get involved in for an excited nip, snagged tights leg or a muddy pawprint.

we practiced come at home until our pup would stop whatever he was doing and come, he's now 13 months and i can now finally let him off the lead and be pretty much confident he will come back to me on command.
he also goes on an extendable lead and i practice come with that too when we are out.
My prob is that he's not interested in treats when we are out so he has loads of praise instead, see what your pups thing is and practice come giving the treat or whatever then letting her go again and then repeat it until she learns that coming back to you is much better.

Try teaching an polite person greet; instead of teaching don't jump, teach sit when people approach.
I used this for my dog that likes to barge through doors. Before he can go through a door he has to sit.

You are going to need a partner for this game. Have your partner approach you on a leash walk and have your dog sit as they approach. When the dog is sitting you give a treat. If the dog stands up in between you giving the treat and the person approaching that is ok (in the early stages) but have your partner get the dog to sit before they give them the treat. This way they learn that when a person approaches me and I sit I get cookies- YAY!
