Teaching a dog to catch.

How do you teach a dog to catch. Mine lets everything hit the deck first even treats. I spent a good while trying. Coordination wise she has just started picking up stationary objects on the run. Is there a simple trick i am missing?

just tried that Alfie but it hasn't improved her catching ability, and she now limps.

Alive and limping, hmmm the gold at the all breeds frisbee catching olympics has just slipped from my grasp. I take it you aren't a qualified catching coach?

Start with something fairly easy to catch like a rich tea biscuit. Throw it as slowly as you can upwards so it gives the dog a chance to watch it come down in an arc and they can grab it on the way down.

If the dog fails to catch it after several attempts, take a tea bag, boil a kettle, pour boiling water on o the teabag, add milk and sugar to taste and dunk the rich tea. Then proceed to show the dog how to catch the rich tea in your mouth. Enjoy!

Of course, your dog could be extremely clever, and has realised that you are trying to poison it, so has to check everything before it eats it.

I had a dog that was not only lazy but stupid too.

If I threw a stick in the park (bad, I know that now) he would wait until it hit the ground. Then he would snap it in two and drop it and come running back to me.

I don't think that he ever saw the point of the game.

I train my to catch bait for the show ring, just small bits of sausage, or cheese. However, the one is rubbish at it. My other one throws her toys in the air herself and catches them, but didnt teach her that one, she is just a lunatic.

lankeela, definitely not !!!! even if it hits the deck there is no way my girls would leave it for anyone else.........
