i totally agrre with you. i work in a pet shop and also breed cats, and the amount of people that come in and say that their cat is only 6 months old and is pregnant makes me mad. my cats only ever have one litter a year and they are also pedigree cats. they dont have their first litter untill they are almost 2 years old. we also get phone calls from people who have baby rabbits they cant get rid of and ask if we want them, saying they didnt know how they got pregnant but turn round and say they have 2 rabbits in the cage. how do they think them selfs got here
I totally agree too. I volunteer at an animal shelter and the vast majority of the cats and dogs that are in there are there because the owners didn't bother to have their pets neutered and then didn't want the inevitable litters. They get loads of feral kittens in too which are a result of domestic cats not being neutered and then wandering and having litters all over the place which then do the same in turn.
Oooh it makes me mad!
Susan - I can sympathise - I definitely got out of bed the wrong side this morning and the woman at the desk over from me is seriously heading for a stapler being thrown at her!!
annavc - when I was well enough to work (forced labour for 24 years and 33 days) a girl did throw a stapler at someone else.
Unfortunately in about 1948 the civil service invested in big metal staplers and some of them are still in active service. This missile was one of these staplers.
This one hit somebody who got in the way - not badly, but with some force. Nasty.
Back to pregnancy - it is like people, to get accidentally pregnant once (or even twice) is one thing - some of the girls just keep going.
While i get where you're coming from, maybe some of the posts are from users who, for one reason or another, want their dog/cat/gerbil/pet camel to be pregnant? It might not always be that they were accidents.
it's not always the owners fault, a few weeks ago i was on this site asking how i could tell if my hamster was pregnant, she was, all thanks to pets at home who dont house the males and females separately!!
yeah i agree i got one of my cats from a woman who said "oh my cats always getting pregnant, theres nothing i can do to stop her" i could't believe her attitude, ok it would cost a bit to get the cat speyed but in the long run it would be cheaper than looking after all those kittens. both my cats are male but they've both been fixed, its irresposnible not to when they can go wandering off where ever they please!
