losing our beloved pets

why does it hurt so much when we lose our pets. i had the loveliest,friendliest pet cat killed by a dog almost two years ago and it still saddensand upsets me that she's gone(it also angers me when i think of how that happened to her purely because of an irresponsible dog owner.)now this week i lost my lovely little pet cat called maisie,she was runover right outside our house on tuesday evening and i feel devastated. i so hope she didn't feel anything.

My heart goes out to you at this sad time.

I have been lucky in that the three animals that I have had (2 dogs and a cat) were old when serious illness struck. It is easy to accept this when it happens. I cried for weeks and miss them all to this day.

You must feel great anger that others have caused the deaths of two innocent little furry friends. There is nothing that I can say that will make you feel better, but please don't bottle it up. Speak to friends and relatives about it, it is a death in the family like any other.

If you have pet insurance you should look to see if the policy covers bereavement counseling. Anything to help you feel less helpless about what has happened.

Awww hun, I know there's nothing that I can say to help with your pain and loss....only that my thoughts are with you. I'm sure she's in a better place now and being a playmate for your first cat.

Oh I know what you are going through at this time.Some years ago I lost my little missy to a road accident and from then on I became neurotic and would not let my cats out at night.I know it can happen in the daytime just the same,but I think they have a better chance in daylight hours,lucky for me my two cats now do not venture near the front of our house thank goodness.I know you will keep saying to yourself ....if only.....but this is the price we pay for their freedom.Time will ease your pain,but you will never forget your loved one.

I can feel for you and I'm so sorry to hear about little Maisie. I was thinking only the other day that it was 5 years to the day that my beautiful Dylan was run over and killed and I still think of him a lot. I have lost another cat recently due to illness and I miss her but I try to keep hold of all the good times I have had with all my cats. You can try to keep them safe but as garner says the worrying is the price you pay for letting them make their own way

I know what you are going thru sweetie. I have just had to have my 6yr old house rabbit put down, as he had become very poorly. He was huge in heart and appearence, and would follow you around the flat. Sometimes would lay in the doorways, so if you left the room you had to step over him and give him attention. The flat is the emptiest place in the world now he isnt here anymore....We love to have pets, and care for them, catering for their every needs, but when they are taken from us before their time, it is just heart breaking...thourghts are with you, x

I'm so sorry for your losses imajenarry, all of us who have and love cats or dogs or rabbits understand the awful feeling of losing them only too well, and to lose them both in such tragic ways is even harder to bear. I am still grieving for my little Popsy who died last August, now our oldest cat, Ebony, who is 17 isn't well at all. They bring us such pleasure but such pain too. Big hugs.

If you belive in reincarnation I do the spirit lives on I couldn't get another dog for three years when mine had been run over, Then one day I just happened to see a notice in a shop window for puppies for sale I am not a sucker for puppies and prefer them when they are proper grown up dogs. BUT there was something about one of them, so I brought him when I got him home he went straight to the chair my other dog used to sit on and, he seemed to know his way about the house and those eyes , well belive what you want but your Masie and your other cat might just find their way back to you
