Using aloe vera on pets

My kitten has re-opened a wound on his leg in an area that had been shaved by the vet. I was wondering if it'd be safe to put aloe vera gel (straight from the plant) on it, given that he'll attempt to lick it off instantly.

From the following, it would seem safe to use, although I have only ever used a spray or gel that has been bought.
