The 'can't move a tank with water in it' was due to the water sloshing about and putting pressure on the glass and putty. Now that decent tanks are made with silicone and plate glass they can easily be moved with 1/4 of the water left in. Put a few layers of brown paper on top of the water, that will help prevent any splashing. Take enough water in buckets/containers with you to fill it with another 1/4. Apart from the hot water to warm up the carried water, do NOT add fresh water until the next day. The fish will be stressed from the move and might not be able handle the water shock that well.
