pets as alarm clocks
28 Answers
This morning I woke up with my cat cleo wrapped around my head...her fluffy tail was curled around my left ear, and her head rested against my right cheek as she "paddled" my shoulder and rumbled "food"...lol This was definatly a wake-up call...almost like the moggy I had many years ago that would lick my ears to get me up. What strange or silly methods do your pets use to wake you in the morning?

My Cefa (my youngest at 7 months!) walks me to bed everynight, then she cuddles me, then sleeps on my feet, and as soon as my alarm goes off, she walks up the bed, and cuddles up on my chest! Makes it soooooooo hard to get up everyday :( But she is so cuddley its adorable!

Aw, you lot - you're as daft as I am!! I sleep with 3 of my 5 cats - Cleo curled up on my left-hand side, Cassie on my right and Monty actually in bed with me, head on my shoulder (I swear he's the re-incarnation of the lovely Mr. K). As soon as the cockerels start to crow in the morning (usually very early, damn things!!), the cats want to get up & go out!! What chance a lie in, even at weekends!!??
I have two cats. When I go to bed one of them is asleep on my side of the bed, when I get in he moves to the end of the bed. When I start reading he head buts the book and purrs very loudly until I give him a fuss, he then goes out. The ickle one meows at me or outstide my door until I get up and give him his brekkie. If I just open the door for him to come in without his brekkie he raids my make up bag for brushes and then climbs under the duvet and pesters me until I get up!!
Aren't they great!
My old cat, Flossie, just walks backwards and forwards over my head and if that doesn't work she gets right up by my ear and bellows at me!
She is absolutely determined and will not give in until I get up. When her sister, Minnie, was alive she never did this as Min used to sleep right next to my head and she and Flo didn't get on.
Cheries - I had a Dillon once and his favourite was to go out in the rain (he loved getting wet) and then coming up and getting under the duvet with me - lovely!

I am so tickled by this thread! Last night I dozed over in the chair after work, around 10.30, and Jack, our dog, proceeded to put every toy he owns into my lap, waking me every 2 mins until I got up to walk him (scattering toys all over the floor, and a behemoth rawhide bone on my foot!)
In the morning he isn't so bad, but if he sees me stir he comes to sit on my head and tell me what a good boy he has been all night...

Haha! I love all these! When I go back to stay at my parents house my old childhood cat, affectionately but a little embarassingly referred to as Starry-boy, comes and puts his face right up to mine, he can't mew very well because half of his throat is paralysed but he has a really rumbling purr, as soon as he starts it my eyes are open to be greeted by his face about an inch from mine staring right back at me! Gives me a bit of a shock when I haven't been back for a while!
Frankie has been waking me up recently coming my hair with his paws and claws. It is really gentle, but no way you could sleep through it.
My last cat, George, would lick my eyelids or paw them. He would also purr loudly into my ear.
Merlin - Frankie's sister just sits and waits to see how her brother gets on. Then when I get up she starts meowing loudly. Then all three of us trip off to the loo for my morning visit.

My gsd, patrols the house all night, she checks every room in turn then gets back in her basket until it is time for the next patrol, about once an hour, all night.
At 7.20am that is it for sleeping, she pokes your head with a very cold, wet nose until you get up, the time never varies even at weekends.
The lab wouldn't get up if a bomb went off and often refuses to go out for a pee if she thinks it's too early.

I went away on a training course once and left my dog with my mum. He was about 6 (he lived until he was 8) at the time. He was a bull-mastiff/GSD.
At about noon my mum phoned me to tell he that she thought he was dead. He hadn't been down from the spare bedroom for his morning pee or breakfast - she was afraid to go and check on him. I was a couple of hours away, so she bravely went up to check on him. He was lying on his back, legs in the air and snoring loudly. She had to prod him roughly to wake him up. He looked at her with bleary eyes, rolled over and went back to sleep.
He was a lousy alarm clock, but a great dog.

I usually wake up with Tigsy and Bluey either side of me. I feel like I've been mumified. Then when I'm awake and lying there Tigsy does a little purry chirp in my ear and walks across my head several times. I think this means "give me my breakfast now you lazy cow". Blue usually nudges her cold wet nose in my face and leaves a blanket of malting fur very near my mouth!!! Yuk.
They are very handy as foot warmers during the winter though. LOL

I've definately come to the conclusion that I'm not the only animal-mad nutter on here!! I had to smile at yours, Wolf, about your dog - my Elsa won't go out in the morning if K Jnr gets up first - she always waits for me to go & let her out!! If I'm away on business, my poor son ends up mopping up wee, because she won't go out with him. Strange things, animals, eh??
