Feeding kitten!

Hi! I'm back with another question about kittens (picking up wee Jess on thursday, so I want to be prepared). I bought food for her, but I'm not sure how much I should be giving her...She is only 9 weeks now. I got Felix pouches (adult ones as they were on offer, but I don't think it makes a big difference, does it?), and dry kitten food too. I was thinking of giving her half a pouch in the morning, then again at night, and leave the dry food for her to munch on during the day. Do you think that's ok, or is it too much? I don't want her to get either overweight or hungry! Many thanks!

At that age is more or less feeding on demand. And yes it does matter with the type of food, kittens need different minerals, vitamins, nutrients and protein to adult cats, so buy some puppy food and keep the adult food for when she is at least 6 months old.

Thank you for your answer Jules77. I will go and buy kitten pouches tomorrow. I won't leave her alone all day, I do work, but my best friend doesn't and lives next door, so he will be coming round to mine and feed her and look after her during the day. I also took time off work for when she arrives, so she can get used to the new place, and will be bringing her to the vet on friday.

As jules77 says the kitten food does contain certain nutrients that she will need. There could also be a problem in that the adult food can give them the runs which is not pleasant. I have always found that the little and often method works well with kittens. They like to have a mad dash round playing, tank up then crash out for a couple of hours.

Thank you Bensmum, I will make sure to give her kitten food. The one I bought has a expiry date of 2009 so it won't be lost! :O) I can't wait to finally meet her. The lady I am getting her from said today that she is missing the other kittens that have been already given away, bless her! :O(

You should have got 2 kittens if you are out all day, then you would not need to worry about her being alone. Kittens get lonely too! lol.
Seriously though, you should feed her what she is used to, and then if you are going to change her food , do it gradually by mixing in a little of the new food , and increasing the amounts until she is eating the new food only. Dont be suprised if she gets the runs if you are going to change her food, this often happens. My cats only eat dry food, but they also drink plenty of water. They dont have meal times, I just keep the dishes topped up and they can eat whenever they like. Please dont make the classic mistake of giving her lots of variety. Cats are not like us, they do not need it , and you will end up with a fussy eater and have to throw food away. Good luck.

A bit late in, but see that you've decided on calling your new addition 'Jess' after our little discussion on cats names.

I shall tell my little Granddaughter that you've named your kitten after her fluffy Beanie cat Jess! I'm sure she'll be so pleased. Also our daughter (Wispy68 on here) who has a cat of the same name.
