1 year old Harvey
Harvey is now 1 year old and he has been fantastic in every way very easy to train EXCEPT we cant stop him barking and growling at other dogs when he is on his lead!!! He is a little Border Terrier but when hes like this you would think he was a KILLER!! Very embarrassing we do find that if the other dogs owner isnt afraid and lets him go up to their dog he is good just has a sniff and says hello and all is calm once more...Any Ideas anyone

Bless him
You need to 'get in first' with a warning, try making him sit or lie down if you see another dog aproaching, and say in a sharp voice "if you dare" and if he stays sitting and doesn't do anything then tell him in a calm voice "good boy" and walk on. You need to be very quick and ready for any other dog getting near, but by letting him you know what he is planning, he may think twice. It could also be that he thinks he is 'protecting' you and you need to make him aware that it is not neccesary.
Hi tilly, I had a similar problem with one of my two mutts and as they were having lessons , my trainer filled a small tube/ bottle with stones ( fish tank gravel is ideal ) then when your little dog starts his over enthusiastic barking a shake of the tube near him will bring him up sharp and he will stop. Not near his ears , and only for a very short time, just for the initial noise. it worked for me !
