Finding the name of an old film

I am looking for the title of an old film, I saw when I was young either in the 70s or early 80s. My older brother says he saw it as a B movie at the cinema, so you can tell how long ago it was. The film was a spoof horror film from what I can recal and it featured a Canine doctor called Jack Russell. You can tell therefore the kind of film it was - with this kind of huour running all the way through. It reminded me of the kind of humour in Police Squad, puns and plays on words and stuff going on in the background. My brother says he embarrassed his girl firend by laughind uproariously in the cinema and she just did not get the humour at all
