I have a kitten who is 3mths old now and is still indoors using a litter tray. She scratches after doing her business and covers her mess, however more recently she is scratching after she eats her food? SHe has a scratch post but doesnt use it - any ideas?

my cats used to do that near their food dishes too, don't know why though - it makes them look a bit crazy!!
hi, this is easy, when she has finished with her food she is scratching the floor in order to burry any remains from any other animals, she is hiding it. even if there are no other pets. they still do it. as for scratch poles ive never seen a cat use one!!
I've only ever had one cat do this and thats my little Bengal cross Oriental. I thought it was something peculiar to Bengals because she is the funniest cat ever with loads of ecccentric ways.
Daisychain is quite right, its there instinct, wait till she brings you a bird home and expects you to be happy, K.
My cats scratch everywhere but their scratching posts too. My carpets and settees are ruined.
I have 2 cats and only one of them uses the scratching post now! It's quite a big one, 3 tiers but it's claimed by the male now as he's always sitting on the top while the female continues to use the sofa!!!

I was told you can use cat-nip spray from most pet shops and spray the area you want them to use although it doesn't work on every cat!!
