Cat walking with a limp!

Hi everyone, my 5year old tabby has been sort of limping the past few days - like an old person would in cold weather! He has his usual little scratches on his nose (he's a big cat and tends to get into fights quite a bit) and I have checked him over his back end, there are no wounds and he doesn't mind me feeling around his hips, paws and back legs, so it doens't seem like it pains him too much. I will keep an eye on him obviously, but, in all honesty, my baby is due tomorrow and I simply cannot afford a trip to the vets right now (both financially and the actual difficulty of getting myself there) if it's just that he has bruised himself in a fight and is likely to be fine again in a few days. He is eating, sleeping and toileting fine; he's not a very sociable cat at the best of times, and aside from walking with a slight gangsta-style limp, he seems fine so just wondered has anyone else experienced this with their moggies?

The only cat I had that did this was a cat we rescued when we lived in Hull. She went missing for 2 days,came home limping,was taken to the vets who gave her the all clear.She died the next day.It turned out she had been hit by a car and her injuries were internal.I would keep a close eye on your cat but if he is eating ok he should be fine.My cat wouldn't eat or drink at all.

Agh!!! Don't say that!!!
He is still going out on his jaunts so whatever it is is not keeping him indoors (when he's had his ego damaged before, he tended to stay in for a few days) and he is still able to scale the fence to get out of the garden. I'll check him again when he comes home, and if hubby home before vets closes then I'll try and pop him down there.

As I said your cat is still eating so is probably fine,maybe he's got something stuck between his toes or has bruised his feet jumping from too high up. They can get into some really amusing situations,thats why I love cats so much........its a shame I can't have any around me now because of my emphysema,i'd have a housefull of them if I could. :-)

Awww, that really is a shame Daffy. I love my cats, it's so funny how they all have their little individual personalities. I have no idea how they will take to the baby!

Aren't there any breeds that you can have around? Only I know that there are some breeds of dogs that are ok for humans that are allergic to them, although I would imagine that you're far more sensitive with emphysema than an allergy. What about one of those naked cats without any fur? Scary looking things they, but supposed to have lovely temperaments.

Yuck,naked cats.lol. It wouldn't be the same if the cat had no fur,how would you stroke a naked cat?pmsl. The most cats I had at once was 8,that was including a litter of kittens from a stray I took in. I now have to be content with stroking any cat I see in the street...thats if I can get it to come to me,some of them just stand there and look at you like you are mad and then all the passersby start to think you have a few screws loose.
Most cats are fine with new babies btw. The only thing I would suggest is that you try not to leave the cat alone with the baby as they sometimes want to snuggle in the cot or pram and that is how the old wives tales started about cats suffocating babies. Its not a nasty act on behalf of the cat,they just want to cuddle up to the baby.Most cats stay well clear though.Good luck with it all :-)

Thanks Daffy - if I say any random women trying to coax one of my cats I shall think of you and not that it is a random person trying to steal my kitties!

On the one occassion I left the baby's room door open to get some air in there I found Raffy curled up in the moses basket so will definitely be careful with them; especially as Diego (the one with the limp) is part maine c00n and weighs 18lb - he'd squish the little mite and break the basket stand! LOL

my cat maisie is 4 she went out last night for the first time since we got her, she came from our local rescue centre. she has came home with a limp and is curently hiding under the stairs when i tried to pick her up she made a very distressing sound she seems to be in quite a bit of pain. shes off her food and not drinking however i think that may have something to do with she cant walk very far at the moment. any suggestions??
