I think i have a urine infection
14 Answers
Can any one tell me the symptoms of a urine infection. I normally only go to the loo about three or four times a day, today however i seem to need to go every ten minutes. It is only a dribble that comes out each time, and i have a very deep pain everytime. Dont want to bother a doctor incase its nothing. Does this sound like a urine infection and if so how long until it clears up?

I'd agree with Sprocket...sounds like cystitis. Go and talk to your pharamcist...they are always good for advice, esp if you're not sure you need a doctor. They'll advise, as there are loads of good treatments for cystitis (cymalon etc) and if they think it's a urine infection, will advise you to go to Doc.
i had that before, actually i get them quite a lot, sounds like a kidney infection or urinary tract infection. if it stings when you pee it could be cystitis. drink plenty of water and cranberry juice is very good for your kidneys to flush out toxins.doing this regularly will reduce the risk of more infections.
Its like comparing a cold to flue. You ask about a urine infection (in the bladder). This would make you shiver (even on a hot day) and go to bed with a hot water bottle. You would have a temperature at the same time.Drinking PLENTY of water gets over this and a GP is not always required. Having a urinary tract infection like cystytis is more localised, and needs medication.
Symptons like this in a man always need antibiotics. In a woman, this sounds like a simple UTI like cystitis. I would advise plenty of water and cranberry juice. Obtain an anti cystitis (about 4.50) product from the chemist. They are ALL THE SAME so go for an own brand one to save money. If symptoms don't improve after 48 hours see the Doc for a three day course of an antibiotic called trimethoprim. I get paid for this advice at work you know!
BTW, this is not catching, it occurs when an imbalance of acid and alkali in the bladder and urine system allows natural bacteria that have crept up the (short in a woman) urethra (tube carrying water from bladder to outside world) to grow. Not much you can do about it unless it's a regular thing in which case long term low dose antibiotics are used. Don't worry!
3 stars (if I could give them) to SimonC - sound advice. My sympathies to you FunkyDora. I had a very similar sounding case about 6 months ago. It's quite embarrassing to discuss really! The advice GDOCS gave me was to drink lots of fluids, cranberry juice included - and I meant lots! It felt a ridiculous thing to do at the time, but after two hours or so it did work. I could finally go...........the relief! (Cranberry tablets/supplements afterwards are good too - available from all good health stores/ASDA)
To make my embarrassment way WAY worse, my boyfriend's mother (who is a nurse)decided to discuss my gynae/urinary discomfort at the dinner table.
Nice.
It turned out after a visit to the doctor that I didn't have an infection, it was merely cystitis. Vigorous intercourse, according to the GP, will give you the symptoms (oooer missus)! I had worked it up in my mind to be something more serious, thinking cystitis always had the burning wee giveaway sign....but alas, I was proved wrong.
Hope I haven't horrified anyone, and that you feel better soon.
