Hello,
I was just flicking through google and came across this osite. I felt compelled to join in order to leave a response to this question.
My rottie Sam started chewing his paws last year, he would take the pad clean off in some sections. He was in pain but continued to gnaw away. It was awful to see.
However, after a converstion with a breeder, she suggested that he could have an allergy. After stopping all treats from his little chews to the odd piece of toast, we discovered that he had an allergy to wheat.
Sam is now on a gluten free diet. We feed him Burns dry food and only give him 100% natural treats.
Two weeks ago we caught him neck deep in the bin scoffing some bread that we had thrown out. It has been over 12 months since he had his last chewing episode, but after his bin raid, he has chewed his paw again.
So long winded I know, but try cutting out all treats and put your dog on a gluten free diet for a few months.
Its worth a try.
Good luck with chew free days
