Most aggressive dog?

I recently read a report stating the top 10 most aggressive dogs and was very surprised to see the dachshunds were top of the list. I'm seriously thinking for getting a dachshund puppy soon. I would like to hear from owners of dachshunds to find out about their experiences, good and bad. Thanks.

There are good and bad in all breeds, and this was just one of those daft surveys that newspapers carry out, this time from hospital records of bites. Most bites do not get reported, and it was pleasing to see that Rotts and Staffs did not figure high up on the list, but the poor old Lab did, as did the Daxie. I know dozens of Daxies that have superb temperaments, and it is a case of finding a reputable breeder who only sell to suitable homes, and then socialising your puppy with people and animals. Contact one of the breed clubs to find a suitable breeder in your area.

I totally agree with everything you have said lankeela. We should never listen to anything we read in the papers lol.

Just to add, this report was based in America (I think) and the Dacs they breed are very different to the ones in this country.

As Lankeela says find a good breeder and meet their dogs before you get a pup.

Any dog has the potential to be dangerous, afterall, it's an animal. Vicious dogs are usually that way, because they have vicious owners, who encourage them to be aggressive, so it's daft to assume any particular breed of dog is more aggressive than another.

Most of the dachs ive worked with have had perfect temperaments. The ones that i have found to be aggressive are generally owned by neurotic old women who carry their dogs around, go figure! :-)

lol, sorry all fans of this breed but I nominate Jack Russells as the most dog likely to bite.

I have only had 2 dogs, both mixed breeds and from rescue centres and both were puppies so I know how important it is to socialise puppies. The first lived for 15 years and the second for 17 years. But if you read any literture on dogs they all talk about traits that the breed show. Any I have read say that dachs are loyal loving dogs. So it's a Doxie for me then. thanks for your coments
