My 2 year old cocker spaniel stole sugar this morning, she could have eaten anything up to half a pound of it.
Anyone any idea of the consequences I may expect? Should I give her anything to counteract this amount of sugar?
Thank you

She might go a bit hyper and start running around with excess energy.

Don't think it should do any serious harm though, make sure she has access to plenty of water.

If she starts to be sick or shows any other signs of illness I would ring the vet and get their opinion.

I found this:

http://www.vetinfo4dogs.com/dtoxin.html#Sugar% 20overload (15th one down "Sugar Overload")

According to that article she should be OK.

I would invest in some locks for your cupboards though!! The next thing she steals might not be so harmless.

Thank you both very much, she was very thirsty but otherwise, didn't exhibit any signs of discomfort, apart from refusing her lunch time 'bonio'.
Very much 'back to normal'.
Thank you.
Can't help with the sugar, but my GSD once broke into a new jar of Helleman's mayonnaise and ate the lot!! He was sick for 2 days (all over the back of our car as well - took ages to get rid of the pong of mayo!!) - he never touched mayonnaise again! Hope doggy's feeling better now. K x
