Excuse repetition....have posted this in home and garden also. My problem is my old lab is weeing in doors and has peed on a new bedroom carpet, a huge amount of wee and I can not get rid of the stench. Its been cleaned repeatedly with disinfectant but still stinks. Please, has anyone any ideas on how to get rid of this disgusting smell, thanks

Biological washing powder, or a product called Simple Solution http://www.lamp-post.co.uk/products.php?cat=11 0
there is not much you can do if you have let the stain dry . i hired a rug doctor carpet cleaner and their pet detergent is excellent.
if it is going to be an ongoing problem i would recommend you buying a carpet cleaner for deep and rapid cleaning responses to accidents. i would also recommend biological washing powder for the stains and odour. good luck! x
Would agree with jules77 about Simple Solution. However, from many years of experience, I have found that the only real answer when the wee has gone right down to the underfelt is to remove the area of underfelt below and replace it.

Unless you do the carpet will always smell.

Simple Solution works well if you manage to soak up most of the urine by blotting with a towel or kitchen roll and then spray the area with water before spraying with the solution.

If the urine has already dried it makes things so much more difficult.

thanks everyone, have bought simple solution and the smell seems to be going slowly.....will update in 24 - 48 hrs, which is how long it says it can take to illiminate. heres hoping, thanks again everyone x
If you have the problem again, as LL says, blot up as much of the urine as possible without kitchen roll (I usually stand on it), or with an old towel, so the area is almost dry. Then rinse with water and dry again before using the simple solution.
I second Jules on that method!
I had the same problem and got stuff called Zybax off ebay. Its designed to deal with areas like pub toilets and certain types of care home and is excellent. Our elderly weimaraner had reall probs towards the end...we just decided to wait for her to pass then replace the carpet (yes I know yeuchh) however, circs overtook us and shortly after her passing we got two puppies...no point in putting down new carpet but it was all getting a bit health police IYKWIM I used it with a carpet shampooer but you can spray it on and leave it to soak in and dry it has stain digester microbes or summat in it...absolutely harmless and the carpet is literally like new...no smell anywhere.
I am not a shareholder in the company lol...it is just an excellent product
forgot to add that some of the smell it got rid off was more than 6 months old

Yes, definitely take your dog to the vet. He/she will probably be able to help. Some friends of mine who had the same problem - also a lab - covered their carpets with a layer of heavy duty clear plastic sheeting stuck down at the edges with strong tape. It did not look very attractive but as they had just moved and had all new dcarpets they thought it was worth putting up with it. It was certainly effective and easy to clean.
I found this it has a good recipe for wee, pets and children too
