lonely love bird

i had 2 love birds in the same cage in my back yard.. a boy and a girl.. but the other day one of them died, i've heard that love birds get very lonely by themsevles.. there is a big mirror in the cage but i'm afaird that the other one will die as well from being by itself after being with the other one for so long.. i was going to get it a mate but i'm not sure if it was the boy or girl who died so how can i tell if the one still alive is a boy or girl so i can get the right mate for it... please help!!

If you want to get a mate for it, it doesn't really matter what sex the newcomer is, as 2 ***** will be just as happy together as 2 hens or one pair. Putting them together may require putting them in seperate cages side by side until they get used to each other.
To sex lovebirds there are various methods which can only be performed by experienced aviculturists, and then only with mature birds and with a degree of guessing. The most reliable way is to get them DNA sexed, but this may cost more than the birds itself.
