I took her out every hour on the hour and said 'go bizzy' to her (just the word my friend also uses...we walk the dogs together which makes things easier) Use whatever you want.
I took her out after playing, eating and sleeping.
Every time she went to the toilet I just made such a fuss of her and generally acted like an idiot! Also gave her a small treat. Even when in the park or on a walk...make a huge fuss and praise, praise, praise.
When she had an accident..I think there were 3...... I never said a word...I just didn't make a fuss. She soon realised what to do. Now she just stands at the door. She virtually goes on command and I still make lots of fuss. She is now 8 months.
At night she has always slept in her soft crate in our room. Not once has she had an accident at night..I got her at 11 1/2 weeks. Dogs really don't like to soil their beds so will make a whimper or bark. I found this really useful but a lot of people will disagree. I'd like to sleep in her bed...it's so luxurious and cosy! I wish you lots of luck. I've had it easy but not sure if it is my method.
Some will recommend using newspaper and encouraging a dog to use that and moving it nearer to the door, then outside, then making the pieces smaller before finally taking it away but I've never tried that so cannot say if it works or not.

OK. He is soiling his bed. Right, how are you sanitising the areas he has 'been'? Are you throwing away his blankets and replacing with fresh ones ? Are you disinfecting his crate/bed with a disinfectant that will get rid of his 'scent' - once a dog has soiled a place they will normally go back to that spot and do it again. I am afraid perseverance & patience is the key to this, puppy wont do this for ever its just some pups take longer than others to get the hang of it, but I would recommend keeping a vigil on him, make him go outside, and stay with him until he does 'perform' before you put him to bed for the night, even if it means staying out with him for hours! How about a long walk before he goes bed? Has he been wormed ? If a pup has worms they tend to poo alot more than usual. I would avoid paper training as this just teaches them to go on paper. GOOD LUCK! Let us know how you get on. Please dont scold him for any accidents he has, it is best to just ignore them, even though it is very frustrating !
At only 12 weeks he is still very young and having a last feed at 4 - 5 is a long while to leave him without food till the next morning. Also this food will be going through him during the night anyway, as they cannot control when they need to go at that age. After his normal tea time meal I would make sure he is given every opportunity to go out, and stay out with him.
Give him a milky or porridgy supper so he has something warm inside him to see him through the night. Make sure he is let out last thing and wait till you have seen him go. Ignore any mistakes and leave newspaper down in his crate so you can easily pick it up. As I said before he cannot control himself, so although you do need to clean up, all that pallaver about sanitising won't make a scrap of difference at this age, if he needs to go he will. Consider the type of food too, is it something that will go straight through him, a good quality dry food (soaked if necessary) will give him more goodness so therefore less to poo out the other end. Rich food or tinned meat will make him go more.
